Why This Golf Holiday in England Feels Different
Perhaps you've thought about coming to England for years, but never quite known where to start. This is a golf holiday in England built differently from the start, created for golfers, golfing couples and golfers travelling with non-golfing partners alike.
We think we've created the answer: The Proper Golfing English Experience, a small, personally hosted journey through the England we call home. Five nights of golf, personal coaching, beautiful English countryside, castles, Shakespeare, exceptional food and more than 1,000 years of history.
It's an invitation to experience our England with us.
Why Have We Never Done This Before?
For almost a decade, we've been hosting golfers on trips and experiences away from home. We've travelled together, coached, played golf and created some wonderful memories with the people who've joined us. But sometimes you travel the world before realising just how extraordinary your own backyard is.
We live in Warwickshire, in the heart of England. This is where we work. It's where we play golf. It's where we've built Proper Golfing. And it's where our own family has created so many memories over the years.
Within a relatively small area around our home are Warwick Castle, Kenilworth Castle, Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon, Anne Hathaway's Cottage, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, beautiful English towns and villages, and some extraordinary golf.
Why are we always taking our golfers somewhere else? Perhaps it was time to invite you here.
Mallory Court Country House Hotel & Spa
We could have searched England for a luxury hotel to host the experience. But we didn't need to. Mallory Court is right on our doorstep, just minutes from where we live and from Proper Golfing. It's been the setting for our own family celebrations for many years. In many ways, it already feels like a second home.
Mallory Court was named England's Best Large Hotel at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2025. Its restaurant, The Warwick, is recognised by the Michelin Guide and led by Executive Head Chef Stu Deeley, winner of MasterChef: The Professionals 2019.
Not a hotel we've selected from a brochure. Somewhere we would take our own family and friends.
Three Courses. Three Very Different Stories.
This is Proper Golfing, after all, and we've chosen three courses that tell three very different stories about English golf. If you've followed Proper Golfing on YouTube, some of the scenery may already look familiar, some of our most popular videos have been filmed on courses you'll be playing.
One afternoon in the middle of the week is given over entirely to the castles and Shakespeare's Stratford, a welcome change of pace between rounds.
You've watched Julian play them, and coach on them. Now you'll get to stand there and play them yourself.
Few English golf venues have a stronger connection with the history of Europe versus the USA. The Belfry has hosted the Ryder Cup four times, 1985, 1989, 1993 and 2002, more than any other venue. Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Sam Torrance, Bernhard Langer and Tiger Woods have all walked these fairways.
You'll stand on tees where Ryder Cup matches were won and lost, and experience one of the most recognisable tournament venues in English golf.
You've watched the Ryder Cup. Now come and walk into its history.
The Championship Arden Course has hosted the English Open seven times and the British Masters five times, as well as the European Senior Masters. Set amongst mature Warwickshire woodland, it provides a very different challenge from The Belfry, championship golf in beautiful English countryside.
A course that has tested some of Europe's finest players, and now it's your turn.
A proper English members' golf club, founded in 1887. Its Finham course was designed by Tom Vardon, brother of six-time Open Champion Harry Vardon, who played an exhibition match here alongside James Braid to mark its opening. And Coventry itself is the city where Jo was born.
Not a resort course created for tourists. A proper English members' golf club, with the mature tree-lined fairways of traditional parkland golf.
You'll have the unusual experience of walking onto fairways you've already watched Julian play. This time, you'll be the one hitting the shots.
Get a taste of one of the courses you'll experience with us: Julian plays three holes at Coventry and talks through what really matters when you take your game onto the golf course. (Video embed: "What Really Matters on the Golf Course? Let's Play 3 Holes")
A City Rising From the Ashes
Coventry is associated with the famous Lady Godiva legend, a story stretching back almost a thousand years. It became one of medieval England's important cities and, centuries later, a powerhouse of Britain's motor industry.
On the night of 14 November 1940, Coventry suffered one of the most devastating bombing raids of the Blitz. Much of the city was destroyed and its medieval cathedral left in ruins. The ruins were preserved alongside the new Coventry Cathedral, and the city became internationally associated with peace and reconciliation.
And then there's the music. Coventry is the birthplace of 2 Tone, the fusion of ska, reggae, punk and new wave that emerged from the city in the late 1970s. The Specials were formed here, Jerry Dammers founded 2 Tone Records here, and The Specials' "Ghost Town" became one of the defining British records of its era.
Traditional English parkland golf. Music. Social history. Lady Godiva. The Blitz. A cathedral destroyed and rebuilt. And the city where Jo's own story began. Every place on this experience has a story, and some of those stories are ours.
The Coaching Doesn't Stop When We Leave the Studio
Each morning, you'll work personally with Julian in a dedicated coaching environment using simulator technology, built on the same Timeless Golf Swing® philosophy behind everything we teach. But then we go outside, because the golf course tells a coach things a practice environment never can.
- What happens on the first tee?
- How do you react after a poor shot?
- What happens when you're between clubs?
- Do you know your safest miss?
- Can you adapt to an awkward lie?
- Can you stop thinking about your swing and start playing golf?
Throughout the week, Julian will carry out on-course coaching during the rounds, spending time with golfers on course management, shot selection, club choice, strategy and mental approach.
This isn't a lesson followed by a round. The round is part of the lesson.
And One Day, Julian Plays Too
There's something we've learned from almost a decade of hosting golf trips: our guests love playing with Julian. So on one of our golf days, Julian will put his own clubs in the bag and join you. You'll see how a PGA Professional approaches the same course you're playing, what shot he chooses, when he attacks and when he plays safe.
It's relaxed. It's social. There's usually plenty of laughter. But you'll probably learn an enormous amount without even realising it.
Morning coaching. On-course coaching. Ryder Cup golf. Championship golf. And one very special day playing alongside Julian. That's Proper Golfing.
Please Come. This Is Your Holiday Too.
This experience has been deliberately designed with non-golfing partners in mind. While the golfers are coaching and playing, you'll have your own experience of Warwickshire and Shakespeare's England, with specially planned experiences and plenty of freedom to explore independently.
Perhaps a leisurely morning at Mallory Court, some time in the spa, a wander around Leamington Spa, or an afternoon exploring Stratford-upon-Avon at your own pace. We'll give you our own personal recommendations for places to visit, eat, shop and walk, the places we'd recommend to our own friends and family, not something pulled from a tourist guide.
And London is genuinely close. We're just 70 minutes from central London by train, with Oxford closer still. For non-golfing partners who fancy a day in the capital, that's Buckingham Palace, the Changing of the Guard, the Tower of London and everything else London has to offer, easily done as a day trip, there and back, without ever feeling like a long journey.
The golfer gets a genuine Proper Golfing experience. The non-golfer gets a genuine English holiday of their own. Nobody is simply coming along on the golf trip.
Warwick Castle, History and Afternoon Tea
We'll visit Warwick Castle, one of Britain's most famous medieval castles with more than 1,100 years of history, right in the heart of the landscape we call home.
And we'll make time for a very English tradition: afternoon tea. This won't be a frantic sightseeing tour. We want you to experience these places properly, look around, hear the stories, and enjoy actually being in England.
Stratford-upon-Avon
Just a short journey away is Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare. We'll introduce you to this beautiful historic town and the River Avon, with the opportunity to discover Shakespeare's story and places associated with his life, including Anne Hathaway's Cottage and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
We'll combine our Stratford experience with time together over dinner. Golfers and non-golfers reunited, stories exchanged, and probably a few golf shots dissected too.
Welcome Dinner. Farewell Dinner. Everything In Between.
This isn't a week of rushed meals squeezed between tee times. We'll begin together with a welcome dinner and finish with a special farewell evening. At Mallory Court you'll experience food from a kitchen led by MasterChef: The Professionals winner Stu Deeley, including its Michelin Guide-recognised restaurant, The Warwick. We'll enjoy relaxed lunches throughout the programme, and of course, a quintessentially English afternoon tea.
If we're going to show you our England, we want you to taste it too.
This Is the Part That Can't Be Replicated
PGA Professional, golf coach and the face of Proper Golfing on YouTube. He'll coach you in the morning, coach you on the golf course, and play alongside you too. Julian is part of your golf experience throughout the week, not a quick clinic followed by somebody disappearing.
Former BBC broadcaster and presenter, personally hosting the experience throughout. While Julian looks after the golf, Jo makes sure non-golfing guests have an experience every bit as important, helping you discover this part of England in the way you want to.
Together, we've been hosting golf experiences for almost a decade. But we've never done one quite like this, because we've never invited you home before.
Monday 24th – Saturday 29th May 2027
We've deliberately chosen one of our favourite times of year in England. Late May brings long daylight hours, beautiful spring countryside and the approach of the English summer. Our five nights sit right alongside the UK's Spring Bank Holiday, and the week immediately following our trip is half term for many schools across the UK and Europe.
That timing matters more than you might think. Because the week straight after is half term, it's the perfect opportunity to combine your golf holiday in England with a visit to grandchildren living in the UK or Europe, or to tag on time with family and friends you've been promising to see. Birmingham Airport is on our doorstep, London is just 70 minutes away by train, and onward travel to see family, or to continue into Europe, couldn't be simpler.
For our overseas guests especially, this creates an opportunity to make us part of a bigger adventure, combining England with grandchildren, London, Scotland, Ireland, or a longer European journey.
Spend five nights experiencing our England with us, then make the rest of the journey, and the rest of your family visit, entirely your own.
Closer Than You Might Think
Historic England doesn't have to mean spending hours travelling from London. Birmingham International Airport is approximately 20 minutes from our area, making Warwickshire remarkably accessible. London itself is just 70 minutes away by train, with Oxford closer still, so a day trip into the capital, or on to your onward journey, couldn't be simpler. London airports are another option if you'd like to incorporate London into a longer stay.
Five nights with us. The rest of the journey is yours.

Reserve With £500 DepositMore Than a Trip. A Turning Point.
We want to be clear about what this week actually gives you, because it's more than a nice week away.
Ryder Cup fairways, castles a thousand years old, a round alongside Julian, and evenings shared with a small group of guests who quickly become friends. The kind of week you'll still be talking about years from now.
Real on-course coaching, not just a practice ground lesson. The moments where something finally clicks, on the course, under real conditions, are what genuinely change how you play.
Built on the Timeless Golf Swing® principles, not a quick fix for the week. A simpler, more natural swing you can trust long after you've flown home.
You Can't Book This Anywhere Else
You can book a Ryder Cup golf course. You can book a luxury English country-house hotel. You can visit Warwick Castle and discover Shakespeare's England. You could probably spend weeks trying to put all those things together yourself. But you can't book this, because the real experience isn't simply what's written on the itinerary. It's who you're experiencing it with.
This time we're not asking you to come away with us. We're inviting you home. Our home. Our golf. Our England. And for the first time, we'd love to share it with you.
£500 Deposit. Just 8 Golfing Places.
