A Golfing Adventure in the Dominican Republic: World-Class Fun and Learning
In October 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting a group of nine senior golfers from the USA and UK for an unforgettable week in the Dominican Republic. This was no ordinary trip—it combined beautiful golf courses, immersive coaching, and genuine camaraderie, all set against the stunning Caribbean backdrop.
Since Covid 19, we have wanted to travel across the Atlantic to spend time with some fantastic clients from the USA who wanted us to organise a trip on the other side of the Ocean. So when inspiration took us early in 2024 we set about organising a trip of a lifetime. The Carribean didn’t disappoint.
From the moment we arrived, the service was first-class, making it clear we’d be returning again. Here’s why.
A Golfer’s Paradise
Casa de Campo is renowned for its world-class courses, including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, and The Links, offering both challenging play and breathtaking views. Teeth of the Dog, especially holes 5-9, provided exhilarating shots and views we could never tire of.
Each morning, we gathered for breakfast overlooking the fairways and ocean. In the afternoons, Julian guided our golfers through hands-on coaching that covered everything from swing mechanics to course management.
Key Focus Areas of Proper Golfing
Our approach during the week centered on the fundamentals of The Proper Golfing Methodology. Here are some highlights:
- Swing Killers: The three critical aspects to avoid that hinder your swing.
- Swing Tension-Free: Learning to eliminate tension for a fluid, natural swing.
- Golf Club Release: Especially crucial as we age, mastering clubhead release is key.
- Six-Second Finish: Starting with the end in mind transforms your golf swing.
Other essential areas included course management strategies like playing to your strengths, smart decision-making, managing emotions, and knowing your yardages. In the short game, we focused on bunker techniques, lob shots, chip shots, club selection, and putting, all designed to build consistency and precision.
The Proper Golfing Mindset
Julian and I emphasised the mental side of the game, which we call “Proper Golfing Mindset Mastery.” This involves controlling frustration, managing swing thoughts, and playing with a positive mindset. We encouraged each golfer to play within their capabilities, not letting one mistake affect the next shot, and keeping each round enjoyable. Our members receive ongoing guidance on this mindset each week.
The Resort Experience
Outside of golf, Casa de Campo’s amenities were a delight. We dined at a variety of restaurants offering everything from local seafood to fine international cuisine. Our favourites included beachside Italian dining and La Caña’s French-inspired cuisine at the main hotel. It was the perfect blend of relaxation and shared stories, where each golfer encouraged and supported the other.
Celebrating Julian’s Birthday
It was Julian’s birthday during the trip! He was thrilled to celebrate it with our guests, and the wonderful staff at Casa de Campo surprised him with a handmade cake at lunchtime—a thoughtful gesture we all enjoyed.
Reflecting on Growth and Camaraderie
This trip was as much about connection as it was about golf. From morning coaching to evening debriefs, the energy was one of team spirit and shared growth. Our golfers returned home with fresh insights into their game, a passion for improvement, and memories of a week that was more than just a vacation.
A special thank you to the team at Casa de Campo—every detail was catered to perfectly, making this one of our most remarkable trips to date. We received an email afterward that truly encapsulated the experience:
“The trip you planned, the facility, the golf instruction, the food, the setting—everything was world-class. You took a collection of incredible ingredients and created something beyond exceptional. But the personal touch you provided (with Georgia’s help) turned a great trip into something truly special. I felt completely comfortable and welcome in an environment that could easily have been otherwise. Thank you for all your hard work, for your excellent instruction, and Georgia’s photographic talent. This was truly special… as are all of you!”
A Special Thank You
To our wonderful group, thank you for joining us. Julian and I were thrilled to see your progress and to share these unforgettable moments with you. Georgia, our photographer, captured it all beautifully, so the memories will live on. This was more than just golf—it was an adventure filled with learning, laughter, and camaraderie.
