XXIO LADIES GOLF CLUBS fitted to Your Swing, Not Your Gender
Women Don’t Want
“Women’s Clubs”
They Want To Be Properly Fitted
We stock and fit XXIO ladies golf clubs at ProperGolfing — and over the past few days we asked a simple question across several women’s golf communities: Are women golfers being properly treated in the fitting room?
The response was eye-opening. Hundreds of women golfers shared stories, opinions and experiences about golf clubs, fittings, pro shops and life on the course. Some were positive and encouraging. Others were genuinely shocking.
But as we read through every comment, one thing became incredibly clear.
Most women are not asking for special treatment. They are asking to be listened to, respected, and fitted as an individual golfer.
At ProperGolfing, that really resonated with us. Because we specialise in helping golfers find equipment that makes the game easier, more enjoyable and less physically demanding and these conversations highlighted just how important the fitting experience really is.
“Please Stop Assuming What I Need”
This was one of the strongest themes throughout the discussions. Many women described frustration around being automatically directed towards lady flex, lighter shafts, shorter clubs, and pink products before anyone had even properly assessed their swing.
In reality, women golfers use all kinds of equipment. Some use men’s clubs, stiff shafts, steel shafts, and longer-length clubs. Others love lightweight women-specific equipment. The point was never that women-specific technology is wrong.
- Women-specific technology can be brilliant for the right golfer
- Automatically assuming what a golfer needs based on gender is the problem
- The best fitters listen, ask questions, test combinations, and never rush
- Poor experiences are almost always linked to assumptions and dismissiveness
- Golf clubs should be fitted to your swing not your gender
The Golf Industry Has A Huge Opportunity — Starting With XXIO Ladies Golf Clubs
One comment from the discussions stood out particularly strongly:
“Golf clubs should be fitted to your swing not your gender.”
That perfectly captures what many golfers are really asking for when they enquire about XXIO ladies golf clubs. And honestly, this is not just a women’s golf issue. It is a fitting philosophy issue. The best experiences described in the comments all had similar qualities the fitter listened, asked questions, explained things properly, tested combinations, and involved the golfer in decisions. Every time.
Women-Specific Engineering Done Right
Modern women-specific technology can absolutely help many golfers. XXIO has invested heavily in making the game easier and more enjoyable but the technology should be explored, never assumed.
Total club weight engineered for easier, more natural movement
Designed to help golfers get the ball airborne with less effort
Specifically engineered for moderate swing speeds
Improved consistency and confidence at impact
More distance without trying to swing harder
Exceptional comfort and feedback through every shot
“Fit The Golfer, Not The Stereotype”
At ProperGolfing, these conversations reinforced something we strongly believe already: there is no such thing as one type of golfer. Every golfer is different. Every body moves differently. Every swing delivers the club differently.
That is why proper fitting should never begin with age assumptions, gender assumptions, strength assumptions or appearance assumptions. It should begin with listening, observing, testing, understanding, and finding the best-performing solution for that golfer.
Sometimes that may be women-specific equipment. Sometimes it may not. The important thing is that the golfer feels understood, included, educated and comfortable throughout the process.
Golf Is Changing And That’s A Good Thing
There was also plenty of positivity in the responses. Many women shared stories of supportive golf clubs, welcoming communities, excellent fitters and genuinely enjoyable experiences. The game is improving.
But these conversations also remind us there is still work to do. Not just in golf clubs. Not just in pro shops. But in how the industry thinks about golfers altogether.
Jo Cameron & Julian Mellor · ProperGolfing
A Male and Female Partnership. By Design.
If you’ve ever been to buy a car and the salesman spent the whole time talking to your husband, you’ll know exactly what we mean. It’s the same feeling many women get when trying to buy golf clubs and it’s exactly what we set out to change.
Jo spent years working in the motor industry with one specific purpose: to improve the car buying experience for women, because it was so poor. She knows firsthand what it feels like to be talked past, ignored, or spoken down to when making a significant purchase. That experience shaped everything about the way ProperGolfing operates.
Julian brings the technical coaching and fitting expertise. Jo brings the client experience, the warmth, and the absolute certainty that every woman who walks through our door is treated with exactly the respect and attention she deserves.
No jargon. No assumptions. No being talked down to. No looking over your shoulder to check someone else’s reaction. Just an honest, knowledgeable conversation about what will actually help your game.
That’s what an XXIO fitting at ProperGolfing feels like. And we won’t have it any other way.
Golfers don’t want to be placed into boxes.
They want to be understood.
And perhaps that is the real future of golf fitting.
